Journey to Magical Lands

I am sure you have by now heard your child talk about the book, 'The Magic Faraway Tree' by Enid Blyton and the wonderful characters. It is the first time that I have read them a chapter book, I started with the 'The Enchanted Wood" and they have become engrossed with the concept of the Faraway Tree that takes them to magical lands.

A couple of weeks ago they had to draw their own Faraway Tree.
Note the ladders in their drawings that take them up far away.
Lexie's drawing.
Bryn's drawing.

You can see here some of the characters living in the Tree.

On Friday they had to design their own Land. You will see these drawings when their Topic book comes home next week.

Today for PE the children were introduced to Tennis by Liz Hooker.

It seems to be a birthday week in Room 1, with Hannah today, Ruby tomorrow and Simon on Thursday.
Do remember the Dress up day on Friday and gift giving for St Vincent de Paul.

Week 6

Last week was dominated by swimming. The children settled quickly into a new routine, put all their energy into swimming so that it was hard to get them motivated when they got back to school.
On Thursday after swimming they brought their lunch boxes into the classroom and ate their morning tea there. Normally they get back to school and they want to play and eat less. I am hoping that this will make them less tired. They will carry on doing that this week.

All of them have made pleasing progress in the pool. Thank-you to all you parents who have come down to help with changing!! Its very much appreciated. Once we get out of the pool we only have 10 mins to get ready to get on the bus back to school.

These photos were taken on Thursday. The children were sitting in the dry room waiting to begin their lesson. Its hard to recognize some of the children with their swim caps on!!

I forgot to mention last week that we won the Eco Warriors plaque on Nowrap Wednesday for having the most lunches package free!! Well done. The children got 'Golden Time' --15 mins extra play on Friday Nov 7th.

I will be sending out a letter tomorrow notifying you that we have had a case of head lice reported and the actions that you can take.

Catch you tomorrow

Swimming Fortnight

Tomorrow the children are to come to school wearing their school uniform with their togs underneath.

They will not need their sports uniforms for the next 2 weeks.

We will be lining up at 8.50am.

Please check that all items of clothing are labelled, particularly their shoes! They have to take their shoes off before they go into the pool area.

For those parents who have been down this road before we will not be taking morning tea with us.  We are in the pool @ 9.55 and we have a tight time frame of getting out @ 10.20 and on the bus by 10.30.

Thank-you to all the parents who have offered to help. I always say yes to every-one, you don't need to come on a set day just when it suits. The more we have the quicker we get away. As we are not in the pool till 9.55 if you are able to help you can come down to the pool at 9.45 approx.

Week 3 Highlights
Even though it was a short week we packed a lot in. Three teachers in one week, 2015 pre-entries started and we finished with the fabulous Mini Fair.

This week  we all wanted to share with you photos of a drama game based around Winnie the Pooh characters that has become popular. It is called "Keeper of the Keys'. It is based on 'Creep Up Granny, when the Keeper of the Keys stops counting and turns around the children have to freeze as one of the Winnie the Pooh Characters.
We can see some Roos, and a Tigger.

Stanly doing his Roo impersonation.

Molly doing her Rabbit impersonation.
This week Mrs Angela Shea will relieve for me on Tuesday as I continue with reports.
Mrs Jule Ann Mc Nally will teach on Thursday this week.
On Friday The Rutherford team is holding a Winnie the Pooh day. [A notice is going out tomorrow]

Thanks to all you who have returned the swimming notice.
They have to be in by tomorrow.

Finally make the most of the present routine!

From Monday Nov 10th we will have to be early to school so that we can line up at 8.50 to be ready to board the bus for Kings Swim School.

I will send a notice out this week explaining
about bringing morning tea etc.

Regards
Mary
We are determined to reach the Keys!

Week 2 Highlights

This week it was Eilish's idea- to focus on Winnie the Pooh. We have been looking closely at some of the characters and looking at their personalities. We had to vote on their favourite character.
4 for Eeyore

4 for Owl

5 for Rabbit

3 for Roo

The most popular was Tigger!

This week we have the Mini Fair on Friday afternoon. It starts at 2.30pm. I will be on Classroom release this Thursday, Mrs Angela Shea will be teaching.

Term 4 --Friday October 17th 2014

Today I asked the class for their input into this blog. Savanna suggested that I took photos of Friday's TRUMP.

Savanna

This is one of Savanna's favourite past times during TRUMP--using the cellotape.

For Simon and Rhys, this is their favourite choice
during TRUMP.

Bryn and Charlie

The creative table is also a popular choice.

Creative play

During TRUMP the children got a lovely surprise with the arrival of ice blocks kindly supplied by the PTA. They were a treat usually given out on our Feast Day, but with the Talent Quest taking all afternoon that day it wasn't possible.

This Friday October 24th is when Room 1 and Room 3 attend mass. It will be full school uniform that day with no sports uniform. Mass is at 9.15 am in the hall. You are very welcome.

Last Day of Term 3!

Last week we said good bye to Mrs Grant. Below is a pic collage of her last Art lesson. The children will miss her.

Today we farewell Alice Eastwick. Alice has been with us for 4 weeks. We really have enjoyed having her. On Fridays she has been teaching the children 'body parts' in Maori. Today was the last lesson.

Also today we had our last lesson from the Animal unit. This was the children's choice. We have learnt amazing facts about zebras, horses, elephants and big cats. Today 'spiders' was the topic. [not my choice] We all tried to draw a spider and hopefully they can share some new knowledge of spiders.

Abi

Bella

Isla

Savanna was proud of her spider.

Sam and Stanly
Wishing you all happy and hopefully relaxing holidays! Next term is the crazy one, there will be highlights like a swimming fortnight starting on the week of Show week. Of course in the first week back its the School Athletics on Thursday 16th---a must watch!
